CONCORD, N.H. - Below is a statement from Devon Chaffee, Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Hampshire, on the results so far of New Hampshire’s 2022 midterm election.
“Granite State voters demonstrated yesterday that they will not tolerate politicians that force pregnancy on people, that make it harder to vote, or that harm our communities of color and LGBTQ+ children and adults.
“While some fierce advocates for abortion rights won office last night both federally and on the state level, others who won have pledged to vote against them–and we will hold them accountable. We know that anti-abortion extremists want to ban abortion in every state, for every person not prepared to become a parent, and for every person struggling to take care of their existing family. This fight is far from over.
“We also know that we will face renewed attacks on everything we care about here in New Hampshire: from abortion, to voting rights, to immigrants’ rights, to public safety, to LGBTQ+ rights, and much more. These fights are at our front door.
“But make no mistake: this will only fuel us. The ACLU of New Hampshire will never back down fighting to protect our democracy, expand access to abortion, and defend the civil liberties all Granite Staters are afforded.”
