CONCORD, N.H. – Today, the New Hampshire Senate voted on HB706, the bill that would create an independent redistricting commission to draw district lines fairly after the 2020 U.S. Census. The Senate passed the bill on a voice vote. Next, it will go back to the N.H. House to confirm an amendment made by the Senate, which if approved, would then go to Governor Sununu’s desk.
“The N.H. Senate came together today to say that voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around,” said Henry Klementowicz, Staff Attorney at the ACLU of New Hampshire. “Impartial elections are the bedrock of our democracy, and that starts with fairly drawn districts. We are grateful for the immense support from lawmakers on this bill and look forward to its next steps.”
