The American Civil Liberties Union of New Hampshire works to secure a world that respects everyone’s right to form intimate relationships and to decide whether and when to have children. With reproductive freedom comes opportunity: opportunity to build a secure, productive, and meaningful life. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, we strive to ensure that the government respects and supports reproductive freedom.

The ability to decide whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term is essential to pregnant person’s equality, autonomy, and dignity, with implications for every aspect of their life – their educational aspirations, career goals, economic status, and, more broadly, their ability to live the life they planned. Despite the formal existence of the right to a safe and legal abortion, abortion access for many pregnant people is regulated so that it’s almost, or entirely, out of reach. And the struggle is getting worse. ACLU-NH is working to ensure that people in the Granite State have timely access to abortion care.

ACLU-NH is bolstering its programmatic resources to defend people’s rights to the full range of reproductive health care services with the launch of its Reproductive Rights Initiative.  This initiative is made possible by a donation from NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire, which permanently discontinued its operations in July.  These additional resources will be used to support the Reproductive Rights Initiative, which is an enhancement of ACLU-NH’s existing legislative, legal, and grassroots efforts to protect people’s reproductive rights, including abortion health services.

Reproductive Rights Initiative
Earlier this year, NARAL Pro-Choice NH’s board decided after months of deliberation to dissolve the New Hampshire affiliate due to persistent financial challenges. Speaking on behalf of the NARAL Pro-Choice NH board, former chair Susan Arnold stated “We are confident in the leadership and expertise of ACLU-NH’s Reproductive Rights Initiative and hope our friends and supporters will continue their commitment to defend reproductive rights in New Hampshire.”
